In 1940, Robert E. Mason founded Robert E. Mason & Company in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a vision to help industrial companies solve problems and improve operations through innovative mechanical equipment solutions. Just two years later, in 1942, he established what would become an enduring partnership with Fisher Governor Company, now Emerson, laying the foundation for more than eight decades of shared success. Today, R.E. Mason is proud to be one of only 18 Emerson Impact Partners across the United States and Canada.

As the company grew, leadership passed through three generations of the Mason family. Robert (Bob) Mason III succeeded his father and led the company through decades of growth while maintaining the values, relationships, and customer focus that defined the organization. In 1996, leadership transitioned to Robert E. Mason IV, continuing the family's commitment to innovation, service, and long-term growth.

Under Mason family leadership, the company continued to expand its reach and capabilities. A significant milestone came in 2012 with the acquisition of Control Dynamics, an Emerson Impact Partner in Virginia. By bringing together two successful Emerson Impact Partners, the partnership created a stronger regional organization with greater technical expertise, expanded resources, and the ability to provide seamless customer support across three states and throughout the region.

A new chapter began in 2017 when R.E. Mason became an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), transitioning ownership to its Associates and creating a culture where every employee has a vested interest in the company's success.

In 2018, John Tennant was named President, becoming the first leader outside of the Mason family to serve in the role. His appointment marked the next evolution of R.E. Mason, preserving the company's values while positioning it for continued growth and innovation.

R.E. Mason entered the isolation valve repair business in 2018, expanding its ability to support customers across its territory. In 2021, the company further strengthened its lifecycle service capabilities through the acquisition of the Fisher Lifecycle Repair Centers in Columbia, South Carolina, and Richmond, Virginia. This strategic investment empowered R.E. Mason to directly serve customers of the Control and Isolation Valve Repair business throughout its territory, becoming the exclusive Emerson Premier Service Provider across the Carolinas and Virginia.

In 2023, R.E. Mason launched Apperture Solutions, expanding its ability to help manufacturers navigate digital transformation. Through Apperture Solutions, customers gain access to expertise in industrial data enablement/AI, manufacturing operations management, production optimization, cybersecurity, and consulting services, helping them turn information into actionable insights and achieve better business outcomes.
