Our Steam Solutions Training Series is a comprehensive introduction to final control applications in steam systems. The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of key steam generation and distribution applications, including boiler blowdown, boiler level monitoring, pressure relief, steam trapping, pump protection and pressure reduction.

This course includes real-world examples, best practices, selection criteria and maintenance tips for effective operation.

Join us for this expert-led virtual series, R.E. Mason Steam Solutions Training Series, for four Tuesdays in at 10AM each session, and explore how you can improve efficiency and reliability, increase production, and reduce down time.

4 Week Agenda

Session 1: This section covers the basics of steam and an overview of common steam systems found in most facilities. Topics include types of steam, steam generation, common boiler types, steam distribution, and challenges within steam systems.

Session 2: This section will cover
  1. Condensate Recovery

  1. Steam Trap Management

  1. Digital Monitoring

  1. Trap Testing & Audits

Session 3: This section will cover peak performance in steam systems depends on efficient heat transfer in key equipment, including heat exchangers, AHUs, and jacketed tanks. This requires maintaining high-quality steam, removing condensate promptly, keeping surfaces clean, and minimizing non-condensable gases. Steam is particularly effective because it releases its latent heat at a constant temperature during condensation. Optimizing these processes reduces energy waste, lowers operating costs, and enhances overall system efficiency.
Session 4: This section will cover Control Valve & PRV (relief valve) best practices

Ian Green brings over 37 years of steam industry experience to R.E. Mason, specializing in delivering comprehensive steam solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability for customers.

Ian began his career in 1988 with Spirax Sarco in the UK, later moving to the U.S. in 1998. During his 29 years with Spirax Sarco, he worked in research and development, designing and testing critical steam components such as traps, pressure pumps, pressure-reducing valves, and heat transfer products. He then transitioned to senior application engineering, providing tailored steam solutions for complex industrial systems.

For the past eight years, Ian has focused on outside sales engineering, helping customers optimize steam systems before joining R.E. Mason as Business Development Manager for Steam Solutions.

His expertise spans:

  • Steam Distribution Management
  • Steam Trap Management
  • Heat Transfer Optimization
  • Condensate Recovery

Ian’s approach delivers full-system solutions, including:

  • Trap selection and sizing
  • Pressure-reducing valve systems
  • Heat exchanger recommendations with best-practice installation
  • Condensate recovery systems
  • Energy footprint reduction, including natural gas and water savings

Ian has led numerous steam system assessments, generating significant cost savings and efficiency improvements for customers. A recent project in Bishopville, SC involved designing and installing a complete boiler house and steam distribution system to replace electric heating with steam-based heat transfer resulting in substantial energy and cost reductions.

With Ian’s deep technical knowledge and proven track record, R.E. Mason customers gain a trusted partner for solving common steam challenges and achieving long-term operational excellence.
